Known for its diverse menu and friendly service, Kurkiniemi is the Solitary offers guests a unique dining experience surrounded by the captivating nature of Lake Saimaa - completely detached from the hustle and bustle of the outside world. Driven by a passion for great food and craftsmanship, every detail is carefully considered to deliver only the best. The name Solitary not only reflects the restaurant’s secluded location but also symbolizes walking one’s own path and trusting in a personal style of cooking. Quality always comes before quantity, which is why the menu follows the seasons with a carefully curated Chef's Menu.
 
The Chef’s Menu is built around the offerings of the surrounding nature: fish from Saimaa, game, berries, mushrooms, and wild herbs from nearby forests. The menu features at least six courses and evolves entirely based on the seasonal ingredients provided by our local producer network. At Solitary, craftsmanship and respect for ingredients are at the heart of everything we do.
 
"I spent my childhood fishing and exploring the nature of Rantasalmi and Saimaa, which fostered my appreciation for the region's ingredients. My love for butter, however, comes from my French roots. While our main ingredients are sourced locally, we don’t want to be boxed into a strictly Nordic restaurant. Our food reflects a passion for travel and the knowledge gained from around the world. Alongside working at Finland’s top restaurants, I’ve worked at some of Australia’s most prestigious establishments and lived in Bali. I hope this is both visible and tangible in my cooking."
