Päivärinteen Ruislastu - Unique flavours from a countryside bakery

In the village of Makkola near Savonlinna, Päivärinne Bakery creates distinctive products with recipes and methods developed entirely in-house.
One specialty is the barley–rice pasty, baked in a 100 % rye crust. The filling is a porridge gently cooked in the oven’s residual heat, made with barley from Rapio Mill and a hint of rice. The rye for the crust is sourced from local farmers and stone-milled on site to the perfect coarseness.
The bakery was founded in 2006 by an entrepreneurial couple. After first operating in rented premises, they built their own bakery in 2013 in the countryside, right next to their home.
